Protact® beverage can

Protact® beverage can

The Protact® beverage can is the first steel can suitable for all drinks without any special modifications. This includes the so-called hard-to-hold drinks like mineral water and energy drinks. Also the DWI can production route is simplified. This greatly reduces the investments and operational costs as the standard washing, multiple lacquering and curing process are made redundant. Thus can making becomes economically attractive for smaller volumes and in remote areas.

Safe
The polymer coating of the Protact® beverage can provides excellent taste preservation for all types of drinks. Using Protact® makes post-repair by lacquering redundant. There are clear environmental benefits with this process, i.e. reduced waste and zero VOCs, supporting sustainable developments.

Attractive
Using Protact®, combined with normal printing techniques, results in an excellent quality print finish. Various colour options are available.

The excellent corrosion protection of Protact® keeps the can's appearance. The high strength of the steel can means that there is little risk of damage during subsequent handling.

Initiate
With the introduction of Protact® the challenging opportunity arose for Corus Packaging Plus to develop a simplified DWI can production process for 2-piece beer and beverage cans that exploit the full potential of the polymer coating.

Co-operate
Corus Packaging Plus initiated various development projects with several major can makers to further explore this revolutionary concept. The projects range from can making up to and including pack tests to demonstrate the feasibility of the Protact® beverage can.

Deliver
The development projects have proven the technical concept of a Protact beverage can. The market launch of a can maker can be expected soon.
