Structure

Here is an introduction to the different ways that manufacturers can create structural shapes from flat sheet steel.

Deep DrawingDeep Drawing

Steel, including pre-coated polymer-coated steel, has the ability to be drawn to form a wide variety of containers and packaging. Most beverage packs are deep drawn, created in a series of steps with the additional process of wall ironing to extrude the shape

JoiningJoining

Steel can be joined in various ways: high speed resistance welding, seaming, roll forming and adhesive bonding. Welding is used for most food cans (wet goods), and seaming can be found on the majority of confectionery cans (dry goods). Adhesive bonding is used for polymer-coated materials.

BendingBending

Steel can be permanently formed into an infinite number of shapes, inspired by purely aesthetic reasons and more functional reasons, such as the need to strengthen panels.

FoldingFolding

Steel can be made in varying gauges, with some as thin as paper. When folded, this ultra thin steel is reinforced into a robust form.

ShapingShaping

Steel's excellent formability ensures shelf stand out and brand differentiation. As steel is uniquely strong, these shapes are resistant to damage.
