Protact® Pristine: a metal finish for domestic appliances
Protact® Pristine is a metal look steel product that supports brand positioning and pricing for domestic appliances.
Price points are under pressure and functionalities are coming closer together between brands. Therefore the importance of finishes increases for brand positioning and pricing.
Especially metal finishes have proven to support premium price points for domestic appliances. To expand opportunities for brands, Corus has developed a new cost-competitive and easy to clean metal look product: Protact® Pristine.
- For the consumer Protact® Pristine offers a fashionable metal look and ease of cleaning
- For production Protact® offers superb formability
- For logistics Protact® offers a scratch resistant surface finish to withstand handling and transport
- And, the basis being carbon steel, Protact® ensures a cost-competitive solution
Several brand owners have adopted Protact® Pristine to build their brands.

SEB uses Protact® Pristine to support Tefal’s Smart Clean deep fat fryer. Protact® Pristine’s top coat enables consumers to easily clean the casing.
Cost-competitive designs exploiting metals’ structural stiffness
Many appliances exploit metals for their appearance and use polymer casings for housing and structural rigidity. Corus has developed a novel joining technique, polymer-injection-forming (PIF), to integrate and exploit the combined properties of polymers and steel. Rather than assembling the appliance from separate steel and plastic parts, PIF allows to work with hybrid steel-polymer parts which brings rationalisation benefits.
- Reduce the volume of polymer by exploiting the structural stiffness of steel
- Reduce the number of processing steps by directly injecting parts onto the steel
- Reduce the number of moulds per application
Protact® Pristine comes in variants that support use of this novel PIF technology. As such, Protact® Pristine offers good design opportunities, answering brand managers and production managers needs.
