Recycling steel

Steel is 100% recyclable and can be recycled repeatedly without loss of quality or performance. Its unique magnetic properties also make it the easiest material to separate from the waste stream. As steel can be extracted from mixed waste by mechanical and fully automatic processes, this means that recyclable steel can be collected without the involvement of consumers.

In addition, as recycled steel (scrap) is an essential and vital part of the steel making process, the market for recycled steel scrap is unlimited. Packaging steel recycling is therefore a mature, ongoing business. The European steel for packaging industry supports recycling through a take-back guarantee, and Corus is actively involved in the process of recycling packaging steel.

Over 55% of the world’s production of virgin steel is made from scrap. No wonder steel is the world’s most recycled material.
