Packaging steel recycling in the Netherlands
In the Netherlands, used steel packaging from households is collected together with other household waste. Next, most steel packaging is reclaimed by magnetic separation before or after incineration. This collection and recycling system resulted in a recycling rate of 82% in 2003, placing the Netherlands among the top recyclers of metal packaging in Europe.
Corus is an active member of Stichting Kringloop Blik (SKB), the Dutch metal packaging recycling organisation. SKB co-ordinates, promotes and facilitates the implementation of the metal packaging section of the Covenant. SKB aims to improve the recycling of all industrial and consumer metal packaging in an environmentally responsible and cost-effective way.
